Bernie

Bernie was the beloved dog of the Arcas family. He spent 17.5 meaningful years together with his Momma and lived in many different cities, including Kitchener, Windsor, Brampton, and finally, Hamilton.

Born in 2005, Bernie was a very handsome auburn Pomeranian. He was the runt of the litter and the last one to be adopted. When his Momma came to meet him, she learned his birthday was the same day as hers and took that as a sign that they were meant to be family. Naturally, he was named after her middle name to honour their shared birthday and, eventually, the special connection they would build together.

Bernie was a big foodie. His favourite treat of all was bananas. In fact, on many birthdays and Christmases, he received bananas as gifts from his family. He also enjoyed watching his Momma cook in the kitchen and was always the first to eye the dinner table spread at family gatherings.

If he wasn’t in the kitchen, you could always find Bernie in his favourite spot near the front door. He loved to relax here, on the tile floor or in his favourite grey bed.

In his last year, it was getting a little tougher for Bernie to go on long walks, so instead, his Momma would take him on long drives in the countryside. They would get up really early to watch the sunrise and then set out for a relaxing drive with the windows down, feeling the gentle breeze while listening to some healing music.

Bernie’s last day on earth was November 2, 2022, which coincidentally, is celebrated as All Souls Day and the Day of the Dead. His Momma finds comfort in knowing that many people around the world will be praying alongside her and honouring their departed on this day, every single year.

Bernie is greatly missed, but will always remain in our hearts and minds. He is now reunited with his best doggy buddy, Skip, and our beloved Lolo Armando Arcas.  His Momma looks forward to the day she will be with him again.
