Our house is alive … but our home and our hearts have a silence…a silence which is louder within us and a silence that is felt, as much as heard

It’s the silence of our hardwood floors without her tiny paws
It’s the silence of the leaves in fall without her carefree frolicking
It’s the silence of the bushes and brush without her chasing and flushing grouse
It’s the silence in the boat without the excited yelps at the fish on the stringer
It’s the silence in the truck without the cries of anticipation driving down the cottage road

I know we all feel the same …It’s not until they’re gone do you realize how someone so small can fill a home with unquestionable love and warmth … and still take up so little space.

But when they’re gone … a bigger void is never felt … a void of silence that is louder than words can ever express. We miss you Nellie, but we know you’re running free now in the fields that you loved so much.

You’ll always be “Our Little Girl” …. Loud in our hearts.
