In Loving Memory of Abby
July 31, 2010 – April 1, 2025
Abby came into my life at just eight weeks old – a tiny Shih Tzu (the runt of her litter) with a big personality. From the very beginning, she was full of spunk, always ready to play, chase after her toys, or go for a long walk. She never wanted to settle down and sleep at night, and I’d have to put on her pyjama “sleep shirt” to signal to her that it was time for bed. She wasn’t a fan of it, but it helped her sleep.
Her bond with her adopted sister, Nina the Maltese dog, was something special, even though Nina was initially not too impressed with this feisty little puppy cramping her style. They became inseparable, whether they were cuddled up together for an afternoon nap or tumbling through the house in their famous wrestling matches, a blur of fur and joy. Abby brought such laughter and energy into our home.
As the years passed, Abby’s playful spirit mellowed, but her love for my family and I only grew deeper. She became my constant companion, my little shadow who followed me everywhere. Whether I was moving from room to room, watching TV on the couch or enjoying some sunshine outside, she was always there – loyal, watchful, and full of quiet affection. I never felt alone with Abby in the house.
When my children were born, Abby took on the role of the big sister, and would oftentimes sit near them on the floor when they were learning to sit on their own or crawl, or she would cuddle up with them for a nap on the couch. She loved waking up with them on Christmas morning, running down the stairs together to go scope out their gifts. They would present her with whatever treats or toys were waiting for her underneath the Christmas tree, and she would be almost as excited as the kids were. Gentle and patient, she was a part of their earliest memories and gave them the kind of love only a dog can – unconditional, comforting, and pure.
For nearly 15 years, Abby filled our lives with love, joy, and a warmth that can never be replaced. Though she’s no longer by our side, her paw prints will remain forever on our hearts. We will miss her and love her forever.
Rest well, sweet girl. You were such a good girl. Thank you for being mine and for every moment we shared.
