Pet Memorial

I started my journey with Paws Untied when I was looking for a second dog to keep my Golden Retriever company. I stumbled upon a dog named Octavia. I applied for her on a whim not thinking I would get accepted. When I got the phone call from her foster Julie I was over the moon. Julie said we sounded like the perfect home and that she had partially picked us because we had a Golden Retriever named Sadie and Octavia’s name was Sadie at the shelter. A week later we brought our two year old wild golden to meet Octavia who would later be renamed to Aria. As an educator I often look forward to the summer but this summer wasn’t something I was looking forward too as I knew Sadie was aging and I was worried she would be leaving me this summer. Little did I know that Aria has been brewing a bone tumour. Aria had started to walk different the last few weeks but I thought it was just old age. Then I decided to start my own foster journey with a rescue local to me. Aria welcomed Thor with open arms and taught him what it was like to live in a house just as Sadie had done for Aria. Two weeks ago Aria was diagnosed with cancer. A bone tumour in her back leg that was growing fast and her leg was at risk of breaking. I was told the outlook was not good and that we could take the leg( which at 13 she may not survive the surgery as the cancer is likely spread) or put her on pain meds to give her a little bit of time. We decided to do the pain meds. This week I noticed her leg had started to swell very bad and I knew it was time but I was scared to lose my dog. On Friday at 2:37pm Aria crossed the rainbow bridge at home surrounded by her sister Sadie and foster brother Thor. I cry everyday about Aria and I wish she was still here but I know it was best.
