“The joy was worth the pain. Love’s a beautiful game.” – Ed Sheeran
14 years together. 5 homes. Countless memories. Through every move, every chapter, every high and every heartbreak, you adapted so effortlessly. You were my constant.
I’m still amazed that you picked me all those years ago, even though I had been certain on a girl. We were meant for each other from the very beginning, Oliver.
You taught me how to be a Mom long before I ever became one. In my selfish, figuring it out 20s, you taught me that someone else’s needs could come first. You taught me responsibility, patience, unconditional love, and the kind of devotion that asks for nothing in return.
You were my 3rd date judge, and thankfully, Pieter passed with flying colors. It didn’t take long for him to fall completely in love with you too and to lovingly accept that he was dating a proudly crazy dog lady.
Watching you become the perfect big brother to Graham was one of the greatest gifts. You were gentle, patient, and protective, and I couldn’t have imagined a better first best friend for him.
I’m so proud of the life you had. A life filled with adventure, comfort, family, and so much love. The permanent dent in the top cushion of our loveseat will always remind me of where you belonged … and where you’ll always belong.
A piece of my heart will always be yours, Oliver.
Thank you for every tail wag, every quiet comfort, every greeting at the door, and every ordinary day you made extraordinary. Thank you for being there through my best days and my worst days. Thank you for always being my constant.
I will miss you every day for the rest of my life. But loving you was the greatest privilege, and I would choose you all over again.
We could not have asked for a more peaceful ending to your life. For anyone who has made it this far, in home euthanasia was the best experience for our family. Thank you to the HNVMES team.
