Lulu

We were so lucky to have Lulu in our lives for five years. We first met Lulu in 2018 on a work trip that included an animal shelter tour in Akron, Ohio. We hadn’t intended to adopt a second dog—our lives were already full with our 3-year-old basset hound and two 7-year-old cats. But Lulu captured our hearts, and we knew she was meant to come home with us. She had been abandoned and had been living as a stray in a state park for some time before being picked up by the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter. She had very little fur, scars, and broken teeth and was very anxious, but she had the biggest heart and always tried her best to be a good girl. Lulu thrived with us, growing a beautiful shiny coat. She made fast friends with our other dog, and one of the cats had been known to snuggle with her on occasion.

Lulu eventually became an incredibly patient and loving big sister to our two children. We could not have asked for a better-natured companion for them during infancy and toddlerhood. The last picture we have of Lulu is of her patiently allowing our 18-month-old to give her a sticker the morning she passed away.

Lulu’s passing has left a huge void in our lives, which is a testament to the amazing impact her time with us had. We love you, best girl.
